For Groovy and SAP Cloud Integration · Built by Contiva in Hamburg
Groovy IDE: write and test scripts online.
Run Groovy code from your browser, inspect console output and process SAP CPI messages. The free Contiva Groovy IDE starts without installation or registration.
The editor is designed for desktop and laptop browsers. You can also read the Groovy examples on mobile.
Three workspaces for code and integration
SAP CPI Groovy IDE
Test processData scripts with message bodies, headers and exchange properties. Choose Groovy 2.4.21 or 4.0.29.
Groovy Playground
Run standard Groovy without the SAP framework: explore lists, closures, strings and small algorithms.
XSLT Editor
Edit XML input and XSLT stylesheets side by side, then test transformations with XSLT 1.0, 2.0 or 3.0.
How to test a Groovy script for SAP CPI
- Open CPI mode. Enter your message body in Input Message and add headers or properties as needed.
- Edit the script. Start with a template or add your processData(Message message) function. Select the Groovy version you need.
- Click Run. Inspect the body, headers, properties and console output. Test changes again before moving your script into an iFlow.
Start with runnable Groovy examples
Understand lists and closures, process JSON, or set headers and exchange properties. Each example includes input data, an explanation and the expected result. Open the code directly in the matching editor.

Syntax highlighting, code completion, error markers, multiple scripts and import/export help you work with code. The console shows output and errors, while an execution history helps you compare results.
Short Groovy tests need no local Java or Groovy setup. For larger projects with custom dependencies and a complete runtime debugging environment, a locally installed IDE can be a useful complement.
Developed by Contiva in Hamburg
Contiva develops SAP integration solutions. The Groovy IDE helps you test individual processing steps without deploying an entire iFlow for every script change.
Your scripts are managed locally in your browser; a server runtime executes them. Control optional analytics and marketing tracking through Cookie settings.
Frequently asked questions about the Groovy IDE
- What is a Groovy IDE?
- A Groovy IDE is a development environment for writing, running and checking Groovy code. The Contiva Groovy IDE runs in your browser and combines a code editor with script execution, console output and a dedicated SAP Cloud Integration mode.
- Is the Groovy IDE free?
- Yes. You can use the browser editor for free without registration. Optional MCP access for AI clients has separate call packages; these are not required to use the browser editor.
- Which Groovy versions are available?
- Choose Groovy 2.4.21 for SAP CPI script step 1.1 or Groovy 4.0.29 for script step 2.0. When running Groovy 2.4, you can also check whether your script compiles under Groovy 4.
- Can I test scripts for SAP Integration Suite?
- Yes. CPI mode provides a simulated message body, headers and exchange properties for processData(Message message). This helps you develop individual scripts. Connections to real SAP systems and the behavior of the complete iFlow still need testing in your SAP environment.
- Does script execution happen entirely in my browser?
- No. The editor saves your scripts locally in your browser. Running a script sends its code and input data to the Groovy runtime. See the Privacy Policy for details about processing and optional tracking.
- Can I use the IDE on my phone?
- You can read this overview and the examples on a phone. To work in the editor, use a desktop or laptop browser with a window at least 1160 pixels wide.
